Glide Network Developers Community – Coming Soon!

TweetGlide is one of the first Private Applications for Twitter to support a developer’s community.

Developers will be able to Develop Glides, Skins, and Bar Plugins that can be used in the application. Developers will be able to provide an install URL that installs the application with the Plugin or Glide, or they can just provide a plugin to be used for existing members through the Glide Network.

We felt that like Firefox, Wordpress, or even FaceBook, one of the single defining factors that gave them mass users of time was the fact that they had an OPEN API for a developers network. The same can be see with Apple’s Iphone.

What is a Glide?

A Glide is a column in TweetGlide. It comes with custom Glides like the following: Home, @mentions, DM, Facebook, Favorties, and groups.

TweetGlide’s “Sponsored Tweets” Glide Column is actually an example of an application that could be in the Developer Network. The entire Glide Column is simply an idea to be used with Twitter that members would find useful.

Of course making Tool bars and Skins like you see in FireFox or Wordpress will be cool. But what will really excite developers will be the fact that they can publish Glides in our Glide App Store.

This Glide Network store will be similar to Itunes where members can search, see what is hot or popular, and rate Glides.

What kind of examples of Glides might you see? Flash games like PacMan or Frogger possibly from the makers of those products. Or even anything you might see at WidgetBox.com.

Since it is FLASH based, it could have Poker Rooms to play poker or Backgammon with other members.

Things like a Weather Glide, or a FaceBook style Glides like “I Own You”, or "Guess Who Has A Crush On You" could also be things you will see.

Just think. Since we don't have to come up with the coolest ideas, maybe someone (or the people from Trillian, Spark, or Skype) will develop a Trillian, Spark, or Skype Glide.

How about some Ebay or Amazon Glides? Hmmm. Maybe a Youtube Glide to show clicks on YouTube Videos in TweetGlide from people you follow.

Could you picture seeing slideshows from your Flikr account, or a Picasa slide show shared with you? Maybe a Glide from hot reviews from IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes or MovieFone.

Or imagine being able to be part of a group like Google Groups or Yahoo Groups. Imagine a Glide called “Bulldog Owners” – You would search and add it to your TweetGlide. Then you can see tweets of people that all said they like BullDogs without having to use #hash tags. You get to see what they tweet even when they are not saying a search term “Bulldog” or having to follow that person. But the best part is, when you don’t want to see what they are tweeting, you just close or remove the Glide related to Bulldogs and you are done. You would not have to un-follow 25,000 people. How cool is that.

The possibilities are endless!

But the best thing, just like the Apple iPhone App Store, is that we do not even know what will be the best and coolest ideas for Glides. We know only an Open API can allow the market to create things that people want.

So look out for the Glide Network Development API to open soon. Make sure to register below if you are a developer and would like to be notified when we open our API up to the public.
